  • DropStuff 5.1.2 For Macintosh 5.5

    (Shareware)

    1.72 MB

Aladdin DropStuff consists of four components, all installed by our easy to use installer:

  • DropStuff application
  • Aladdin Compression control panel
  • StuffIt Engine
  • StuffIt Engine PowerPlug
  • The DropStuff application is the application you use to compress files into the StuffIt (.sit) format. We install an alias to this application on your desktop so that you can easilly access it.

The Aladdin Compression control panel allows you to select the best compression method (Fast or Maximum) for your needs.

The StuffIt Engine and the StuffIt Engine PowerPlug do the stuffing when you drag items onto DropStuff. These two components enhance Aladdin StuffIt Expander by giving Expander access to many more translators and decoders than are built-in to Expander. In addition, many third-party applications access these files to incorporate Compression and Expansion into their functionality. Although both the StuffIt Engine and the StuffIt Engine PowerPlug reside in the Extensions folder in the System Folder, neither of these patch any traps or are loaded at startup, so should not create any conflicts.

DropStuff is designed to meet three needs:

    (1) Create StuffIt archives quickly and efficiently.
Using DropStuff, you can create StuffIt archives by simply dragging & dropping your files and folders onto the DropStuff icon.

    (2) To enhance StuffIt Expander, so it can expand more formats.
If you have our program StuffIt Expander also installed, the StuffIt Engine and the StuffIt Engine PowerPlug give it the ability to expand just about any file format you might encounter.

StuffIt Expander can expand these file types for FREE:

  • StuffIt (.sit, .sea)
  • Private File (.pf)
  • Disk images (.img, .smi)
  • BinHex (.hqx)
  • MacBinary (.bin)
  • UU (.uu, .uue)
  • Zip/GZip (.zip, .gz, .tgz)
  • With DropStuff and the StuffIt Engine installed, StuffIt Expander can expand these file types:

  • MIME/Base 64 (.mime) - These files are expanded for free.
  • Compact Pro (.cpt) - These files are expanded for free.
  • Arc (.arc)
  • AppleLink Package (.pkg)
  • LHa (.lha, .lzh)
  • TAR (.tar)
  • Unix Compress (.z, .taz)
  • (3) Enhance third-party products that use the StuffIt Engine.
There are many programs written by other companies that will take advantage of the StuffIt Engine if it is present. Once you have installed DropStuff, these products can stuff and expand files.

System Requirements - Aladdin DropStuff 5.1.2 requires System 7.5.3 or higher or Mac OS 8.x. The minimum supported Macintosh is 68020 machine with a minimum of 8MB installed memory. DropStuff is Apple event aware, 32-bit clean, '040 cache and virtual memory compatible.

    TechTool 1.1.8

    (Freeware)

    635 K

TechTool is a small utility which performs two tasks Macintosh users often need to perform: rebuilding the desktop and zapping the PRAM. TechTool makes these tasks easier by allowing the user to perform them without memorizing cryptic keystrokes.

TechTool also shows lots of system and hardware information, including the date the computer was manufactured, the total hours of use, ROM version and sound capabilities. All this information may also be printed out in a report.

The PRAM (parameter RAM) holds some basic configuration data that is kept between restarts of your Macintosh. This PRAM can sometimes become corrupted and scrambled, and zapping it can often cure seemingly unrepairable, recurring problems. In addition to zapping the PRAM, TechTool can save and restore PRAM data.

TechTool rebuilds the desktop by deleting the desktop database file(s) that store your hard drive's directory information. Sometimes a corrupted desktop database won't rebuild properly with the standard COMMAND-OPTION on startup. The ability to bypass this problem, and TechTool's ease of use make it a good tool for desktop rebuilds.

This is a GREAT disk utility to use on all the Mac emulators.
