Have you ever wondered why System 7's windows and scroll bars are 3D and shaded while the push buttons are still flat and black and white? Are your eyes tired of staring at bright white window backgrounds? Does that blocky Chicago font get you down? Or maybe you just yearn for a red stop sign. If so, you should try Greg's Buttons, a control panel that lets you customize your Mac's user interface. Once you use it, you will never be able to go back.

Features

	Replaces the standard flat black and white push buttons, check boxes, and radio buttons with tasteful 3D color ones. These buttons are designed to complement the windows and scroll bars in System 7, and in particular, they use the color tinges from the Color control panel. You can choose from three styles of push buttons and four styles each of radio buttons and check boxes. There is also an option to draw the text of push buttons using an embossed style.
	Substitutes a font of your choice (chosen from two variants each of Helvetica, Palatino, Espi, and Tecton, as well as Veritas, which is based on Apple's Truth/Charcoal font) for Chicago as your system font.
	Lets you select the background color of dialog boxes, menus (both the text and background colors), and Finder windows.
	Colors the mini icons in Finder list views (i.e., view by name, etc.). This is the smallest icon size you can select in the Views control panel. This feature works only with Systems 7.0, 7.0.1, and 7.1.
	Colorizes the stop sign, caution, and note alert icons.

Kaleidoscope is compatible with all versions of the Mac OS ranging from System 7 through Mac OS 8.5. Under Mac OS 8 and later, it takes advantage of the Appearance Manager, so that any Appearance-savvy application automatically uses Kaleidoscope's interface. 

Mac Identifier

This extension identifies your Macintosh model and provides an appropriate icon for your System software. Under System 7.5 and 7.1P, Macintosh computers aren't properly identified in the "About This Macintosh" box, displaying instead a generic Apple logo which says, simply, "Macintosh."

While the same changes could be made with ResEdit, this extension does it for you and (for those of you who aren't artists) provides some icons which match those common to Apple's system about boxes. You can have your Macintosh Model reflect your preference of emulator for example. About this Basilisk or Fusion or Joe's Mac or whatever. If your Mac's amnesia bugs you and you're willing to sacrifice a bit of your System RAM to this cosmetic change, Mac Identifier will do the trick.

Mac OS Purge

Mac OS Purge is a very small application that purges your system software memory. In tight memory situations, it can be used to squeeze out what little memory you have left, however it does not defragment RAM stuck between active applications. It will clear your system of stale data that may be held in memory and could cause your system to crash.

Repeated launches of Mac OS Purge with the \About This Macintosh\ window open showed that it does exactly what it's designed to do. On every launch, the system software usage shrunk a little.

The author suggests that the best time to launch Mac OS Purge is between launches of applications which use large chunks of memory. But to maximize available memory launch it whenever you want. I put it in my Startup Items folder and have a alias on my desktop.

 MenuBall 2.3.1

ALM software MenuBall is an absolutely useless control panel that puts a bouncing ball in your menu bar. It won't slow down your Mac and it shouldn't crash (but use it at your own risk). 

There's only one smart use for MenuBall: since the ball moves one step at each WaitNextEvent call, you can use it to monitor the system activity. If the ball stops, the Mac probably won't respond to user actions and may even be hung; if it moves slowly, the front application is being friendly to other processes and giving up a lot of processor time; if it moves fast, then the front application is eating most of the CPU time (and possibly wasting it). If you can bear MenuBall for more than half an hour, you've earned it.

Control menu bar crowding with Menuette! So many applications and extensions add menus to the menu bar that you can soon run out of space. Menuette alters the appearance of menu titles in the menu bar, both in the Finder and in other applications. Instead of the words that normally appear (such as File and Edit), you'll see small color icons representing these concepts. Includes sets for some specific applications with special icons for each application's unique menus.

In its latest iteration, Menuette consolidates the icons into one icon library, and provides an icon editor that lets you modify the existing icons or create your own, and even upload them so that other users can use them. Menuette is an invaluable tool for anyone who finds their menu bar cramped, especially PowerBook users.

More File Info CMM Plug-in is the MacOs 8 Contextual Menu Plug-in that realize such things. Main feature of this plug-in is to show the detailed information on the selected file to the contextual menu. However, it also allow users to set or change the following settings.

This INIT requires Mac OS 8.x. I have not tested it on any Mac EMU yet, but it worked on my PPC.
