TypeIt4Me 4.8.1

(Shareware)

724 K

TypeIt4Me is a nifty control panel that essentially adds a glossary function to any and every program. You can even use it in dialog boxes! Just type in a shortcut code up to 25 letters long and TypeIt4Me expands it to a full word, phrase, or entire boilerplate paragraphs. It can also insert the current date and time.

It's amazingly easy to use and will make you more productive no matter in what program you use it. TypeIt4Me is particularly helpful in having standard text for chats prepared in advance. We highly recommend this superb piece of shareware magic.

Watcher 2.0

(Freeware)

The return of a classic! Watcher puts eyeballs in your menu bar that keep an eye on your mouse cursor as you move it. It is not at all useful, but it's fun, and it's compatible with every version of the Mac OS, from 7.0 through 8.1. And it's free! I have not tried this out on either emulator but a similar product "Eyeballs" was used my me for some time on my PowerMac.

Window Monkey 1.3

(Shareware)

Good God, haven't you people had enough? First you make your windows unrecognizable with Kaleidoscope, then you layer Now Menus on top of it, then you... ah, I don't know what today's kids are coming to. OK, just for you, here's one more: Window Monkey.

What's it do? Three things:

  1. Adds an icon to the menu bar that presents a hierarchical list of all open windows, grouped by application, so you can jump to any of them quickly

  2. Lets you jump to any recently used folder when stuck in an Open/Save dialog box (a la Now Boomerang)

  3. Here's the money shot -- it puts user-selected patterns in any Finder window. And yep, you can have different patterns for different windows, and it'll remember that you want a graph paper background for your math homework, etc.

Very nicely done, with terrific graphics, witty text and thorough documentation. Yet another way to mark your territory.

Wish I Were

(Freeware)

The "Wish I were..." control panel provides a method for a system to identify its hardware as another hardware type, via the Gestalt "mach" selector.

The reason for creating this control panel was to assist individuals who install clock chippers, especially to Power Macs. Some applications (for example MachTen) use the response from the Gestalt "mach" selector to determine a Macintosh's hardware type, and thus perform run-time configuration. Clock chipped machines may respond with a value that does not correspond to an existing machine (for example, a clock chipped PowerMac 6100 response as a 6100/80), and some applications may be confused.

This utility can be used to force Gestalt to respond with an acceptable value, and thus the application will function correctly.

It will allow you to fool certain PPC installers into thinking that your emulator is a PPC, BUT IT WILL NOT LET YOU RUN PPC PROGRAMS!

Zipple 1.9.2

(Shareware)

60 K

Put some zip into your menu bar! Zipple is a control panel/extension combination which allows you to simultaneously replace the menu bar titles of the Apple Menu, Balloon Help, and/or Application menus with animated images. So it's like Menuette or MICN (discussed earlier in this section), but with animation. It includes a FatBits editor in the control panel so you can edit the icons or create your own. Sort of like Cursor Animator for the menu bar!
