Accessing the Contents of a HFD via a
Macintosh
by Jim Watters
Using PCMacLAN
If you can get a hold of PCMacLAN by Miramar
Systems, Inc. you can access your hard drive file (HDF) from a Macintosh
just like it's a shared folder. You go into the PCMacLAN server program and
specify that the extensions HF1, HFD, etc. are to be opened by the Mac as
type:dimg and creator:ddsk. You can then transfer files to the mounted fusion
disk from your Mac or visa-versa via a network connection. You will need Apple's
DiskCopy program to actually mount the HDF onto the Mac's desktop.
Here's a demo download link: ftp://support.miramarsys.com/pub/products/pcm72.exe
Using ResEdit
You can also transfer your HDF to a Mac and set
the creator and type as above using ResEdit. Diskcopy will then mount the drive
as if it were a disk. Files then can be copied back and forth. Then the Fusion
hard drive file can be copied back to your PC (that's the cheap way of doing
it).
